Quality Assurance

BAE Systems has been providing the highest quality services and products to our customers since our inception. Quality has always been a part of our vision--and our history. And as we move forward on our "Journey Beyond Tomorrow," quality will continue to be a driving force in our company. We place the highest priority on meeting or exceeding the needs of our customers and on continuously improving our business processes. This philosophy is the foundation for our ongoing growth and success. Each new BAE Systems employee completes an initial web-based orientation course that covers the two key areas of our quality program:

Excellent in Service (EIS)

EIS is a BAE Systems operating philosophy that involves every phase of our business and every employee in the company. EIS involves all of the following:

  • the customers we serve and support
  • the products, programs, and systems we develop in their behalf
  • the processes used internally to create and produce our products
  • the measurement system we use to gauge our progress
EIS has been a part of our culture since 1989. The company recognizes outstanding achievers regularly through formal Visionary Awards. These awards are based on elements of the BAE Systems vision and are grounded in EIS principles. (EIS promotes internal process improvements as well as increased customer satisfaction.)

ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS)

The ISO 9000 standards have become the international reference for establishing quality requirements in business-to-business dealings--more recently, in government-to-business dealings. ISO 9001:2000, published in December 2000, is the latest version of the standard and represents what experts around the world have agreed to as a state-of-the-art management system model.

Simply stated, it is a systematic approach to satisfying customer requirements. Systemizing ways of doing things ensures that nothing important is left out and that everyone is clear about who is responsible for doing what, when, how, why, and where.

BAE Systems has put a Quality Management System (QMS) in place, based on the ISO 9001:2000 standard. The QMS provides company-specific mechanisms for managing, controlling, measuring, and improving the quality of our products and services, and is applied across the company.

In December 1999, BAE Systems demonstrated that it met the quality management standards by engaging an accredited third party registrar to independently assess the QMS. As a result, BAE Systems became certified as an ISO 9001:2000 company at the corporate level and at selected operational sites.

The BAE Systems Quality Management System is fully described in the company's Quality Manual. Any BAE Systems customer or potential customer can request a copy of this publication. BAE Systems's point of contact is Bill Grunenwald, Vice President and Director of Quality.
